Louis Riel chose Batoche as the site of his «provisional government of Saskatchewan». The site is of historical importance since it was the last battlefield (May 9, 1885) in the Northwest Rebellion. The national historical site presents the remains of the village and depicts the lifestyle of the Métis of Batoche between 1860 and 1900.
Note: A few kilometers before arriving at the Batoche National Historical Site, we crossed the «blue bridge» which is… green, the reason being that green paint was on sale when time came to repaint it!
