St. Louis and St. Isidore
de Bellevue
More than 95% of the 400 inhabitants of the community of St. Isidore de Bellevue are francophone. Since the 1930s, pulse crops such as peas and lentils have made the community's fame but, nowadays the crops are very diversified and several types of breedings have also been added. The village's cultural centre shows the works of local artists, in particular wood sculptors. Annexed to the center is a small restaurant where they will be very pleased to serve you Bellevue's poutine! Outside, along a pathway, local artists created the «Légende fransaskoise», a series of artworks recounting the Fransaskois' history. In the nearby community of St. Louis we had the privilege of meeting senator John B. Boucher. For more than 40 years, he has been fighting for the rights and for the autonomy of the Métis. On September 24, 1998, he tied a métis belt around Nelson Mandela's waist during his visit to Canada. |
