L’Anse-aux-Meadows

Located at the northern tip of the island of Newfoundland, L'Anse-aux-Meadows (the only site in North America where traces of the Vikings were found) is recognized as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO. Its name is thought to be a deformation of the French name «L'Anse-aux-Méduses» (Jellyfish Cove) given to the site by French fishermen back in the XIXe and XXe centuries. We visited the national historical site as well as Norstead, a Viking village and port of trade as they may have looked in Scandinavia around 790-1066 A.D.
